politics |
LOYALTY/ALLIANCE: Ministry of Magic ROLE IN THE WAR: Rhoslyn will be useful in werewolf rights and relations with the Ministry. Because of her own stereotypes of werewolves and her struggle to lead a normal human life while becoming a monster once a month, she will help the Ministry reach out to more werewolves. She will assist in cracking down on unregistered werewolves, getting more to be Ministry-sympathetic, and corralling those werewolves currently associated with the Order. In addition to being a werewolf, Rhoslyn is a muggleborn and has lived the majority of her life as a muggle. She is familiar and comfortable with the muggle world, and can work as a bridge between the worlds. POLITICAL VIEWS: As a muggleborn, Rhoslyn was always open-minded and accepting of people of all kinds. She was never openly pro-equality, as she could care less about politics, but if asked she would certainly want equality for all. As a werewolf, she feels ostracized from society, and has convinced herself that perhaps not all should receive equality. Though it is true that werewolves are discriminated against, especially by the recent legislation, Rhoslyn has brought it upon herself to make a normal life even more difficult. In her eyes, werewolves are monsters and do not deserve the life of a human. Since being bitten, she has found herself more comfortable in the muggle world where werewolves remain a fairytale. However, she feels rejected from both worlds, and believes it would be safer for everyone if she remained on her own and away from society. |
appearance |
APPEARANCE: Rhoslyn has a medium-dark complexion, large brown eyes, and a tiny but contagious smile. Her hair curls in tight brown ringlets that make it a hassle to try and tame. She has a tiny frame with muscle definition in her arms and legs from Quidditch and dancing. Despite her very short height at just over five feet, Rhoslyn is very curvy. A small waist and a large chest has made her desirable to many. She never goes without make up or effort put in to her wardrobe. She always wore bright colors and prints, and many accessories. Her appearance was as bubbly and loud as her personality. Since her becoming a werewolf, she has become frail. Besides her initial attack's scars on her shoulder, she has faint scratches in various places from attacking herself in her own transformations. She has constant dark circles under her eyes that she can't seem to get rid of. She wears dull colors and tries not to attract attention to her presence or appearance. Most notably, her smile has disappeared. |

WAND: BOGGART: A werewolf PATRONUS: A squirrel When the squirrel comes into our lives it is often a message for us to have more fun, and take life a little less seriously. We can see this in the squirrel's daily antics in our yards and surroundings. Squirrels are quite sociable, and are often seen in pairs or groups. Any amount of observation of the squirrel will reveal that it is a vocal creature as well, and using extensive communications - particularly when in play or when it feels threatened.LIKES: dancing, fiction books, skirts, weekends, fuchsia, earrings, The Wizard of Oz, C.S. Lewis, friends, baking, nighttime, sleeping in, rare meat, horses, Quidditch DISLIKES: that time of the month (curses be that Rhoslyn experiences both), nightmares, text books, that time in the winter where her clothes and hair attract nothing but static, when the leaves fall off the trees in Autumn, pumpkin juice, yellow, exams STRENGTHS: Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, flying, an underlying good heart, personal experience as both a muggleborn and a werewolf, hardworking, determined, innovative, individuality, dreamer WEAKNESSES: the full moon, not very good with wandwork, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Charms, anti-social, fear of herself, current hatred of werewolves, rare meat, a sense of no future, tendency to remain neutral KNOWN INFORMATION: KNOWN MINISTRY OFFICIAL. KNOWN WEREWOLF. AS A CANTINGTON → As muggles, the Cantingtons are virtually unknown to the wizarding world. Comfortably middle class, Rhoslyn's father is known locally as a businessman, but more whispers surround him for his unconventional family and playboy ways. Tensions exist between her father and grandparents, whose traditional values disprove of Lachlan's lifestyle of many children with several mothers and divorce. Even in his middle age, he still attracts many women, and there is no doubt a second divorce is impending and another wife will be taken on.DETAILED PERSONALITY: To understand the present Rhoslyn, it is important to look at her former self. Her past is divided radically into two parts: pre-werewolf and post-werewolf. She looks at her pre-werewolf years as the Golden Age, the time when she was her true self. The recent years of post-werewolf have made her personality do a complete one-eighty. Until she was bitten, Rhoslyn was a bubbly Hufflepuff. She thrived on her individuality, wearing bright colors and crazy accessories that exuded her carefree and happy-go-lucky persona. She was not timid of showing her true self, and in fact embraced it. It was nearly impossible to ever find her blue or without a smile. She found laughter contagious and struggled to avoid a fit of giggles. She enjoyed her social life, more so than her studies. An average student, she avoided work when possible and focused all her spare time on being surrounded by friends. She got along well with most and known by almost everyone. Rhoslyn was hardly shy. She did not consider the consequences for her actions, but at the same time was oblivious to any bad events. To her, life was joyful and to be surrounded by good friends and laughter was all she needed. She was innocent to the eye, but flirted constantly, dated frequently, and had a weakness for suggestive jokes. Overall, Rhoslyn was good at heart and unceasingly optimistic. Rhoslyn has always dreamed big. Her mother used to read her storybooks and tell her fairy tales of princesses and far-away lands. Before she even learned she was a witch, Rhoslyn's secret world of play and pretend was filled with magic. She let her imagination run wild, not shy of imaginary friends or changing her desired future career everyday. From ballerina to dragon-slayer, Rhoslyn wanted it all. She was never that gifted with her studies; she had a hard time concentrating and struggled with writing so formally. She got carried away with her wandwork, but managed when she worked hard. So to say, she either had her head in the clouds, or dancing and laughing late in the night with a group of friends. She loved her life, and to her life was to be lived to its fullest. The endless possibilities of her future disappeared when she was turned; the kind, social, and yearning Rhoslyn Cantington was lost. She was the monster that destroyed the heroines of her imagination. Post-werewolf, Rhoslyn is hardly recognizable. Not only because of her sunken and worn appearance, but her former spark is extinguished. She is anti-social, to the point where she is no longer in contact with former friends or her family. Save for a Healer at St. Mungo's, Rhoslyn hasn't revealed her condition to anyone. She is ashamed and frightened; she's the monster under her bed. When she had discovered she was a witch when 11, she was afraid and confused. She had grown up as a muggle, oblivious to the wizarding world. Before going to Hogwarts for the first time, she was afraid for her muggle friends to find out her secret, and was convinced her father was ashamed. But once she found her place at school and discovered how wonderful magic was, she embraced her life as a witch. When she became a werewolf, she felt the initial fear and shame of being a witch rush back, but magnified because of the prejudices held against werewolves in both the muggle and wizard world. She had never met a werewolf before her attacker, she only knew of their grotesque images from children's stories or literature in textbooks. Post-werewolf, she left her entire former life behind. She keeps to herself, and hardly speaks to others unless necessary. Even then, her speech is short and formal. She can't find the happiness in life or a reason to laugh. To become close to someone is her greatest fear; the monster within is surely a killer. She feels her curse as a werewolf is something for her to bear alone. As a muggleborn, Rhoslyn was always open-minded and accepting of people of all kinds. In her eyes, werewolves are monsters and do not deserve the life of a human. |
history |
CHILDHOOD: The story of Rhoslyn Cantington begins long before her birth. More accurately, you could entitle her prelude "Lachlan Cantington Plants His Seeds Everywhere". Always handsome, charming, and taking a different girlfriend every week, Lachlan Cantington began creating offspring when he was still a schoolboy. Though he was unaware of the birth of his first child, a girl named Malise Knight born to a quick fling, Malise only recently contacted her father, revealing her identity. Fresh out of school, Lachlan was quick to marry his school sweetheart, the quiet and frail Isla Collins. Because of her weak condition, a heart problem that she was born with, Lachlan and Isla struggled to have a child until April 10, 1957 when they were blessed with Rhoslyn Eden Cantington. In her mother's eyes, Rhoslyn was the world. She dressed her up in tiny dresses, tenderly played with her hair, sang to her every night, and baked cookies with her daughter. These are the few memories Rhoslyn holds on to her mother, and she isn't even sure if they're real. After her birth, Isla's health turned for the worse and finally gave out when Rhoslyn was four. Devastated, her father refuses to mention her mother, and quickly entered the dating world again. Too young to remember her mother's death, Rhoslyn has never felt the sadness of losing Isla, but has experienced the emptiness of becoming a woman without a mother and having few true memories of her. Less than two years after her mother's death, her father's current girlfriend, Lexine Marwick, became pregnant and the two married just before the birth of Rhoslyn's half-sister, Clementine Marwick-Cantington. Lexine was much younger than Lachlan and clearly a trophy-wife and way of avoiding his grief over the death of his first wife. Though Rhoslyn was still young to understand this, she was curious about her new step-mother, hoping she would fill the void created by her mother's passing. As a young woman and new mother, Lexine paid little attention to Rhoslyn, so Rhoslyn took it upon herself to protect her little half-sister Clementine from the supposed (in her mind) wicked step-mother that she had read about in books. She didn't want an evil step-sister, and baby Clementine was too precious. Three years later, Lexine gave birth to another daughter, Olive Marwick-Cantington, who Rhoslyn also took under her wing. The three became close, and Rhoslyn looked out for her younger sisters and taught them to be good. When Olive was two, Lachlan and Lexine divorced, sending another blow to Rhoslyn, and not because she was losing another mother-figure, but because she was taking Clementine and Olive away. However, Rhoslyn had little time to grieve as she soon after turned eleven, receiving her acceptance letter to Hogwarts and discovering she was a witch. Her family muggles, it was a complete shock and her father passed it off as a cruel prank. The idea of being a witch, who had crooked noses and warts in her storybooks, frightened Rhoslyn, but she couldn't help but be curious. To have magic reminded her of her short time with her mother, which now seemed like more of a dream. HOGWARTS: Reluctantly dropping his daughter off at King's Cross Station in September, Rhoslyn made her first journey to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, on the train, she found she was not alone; there were other muggleborns just like her. She was sorted in to Hufflepuff, where she was welcomed, and began to discover the wizarding world. It was as if a door opened, leading Rhoslyn in to a fantastical world of one of the stories her mother shared with her. She liked to pretend that her mother was a witch, just like her. She had a purpose, and the power of the magic. She easily made friends and comfortably slipped in to life at school. When she returned home for the summer after her first year, she found her father had taken on a new girlfriend, who believed Rhoslyn had been away at a non-magical boarding school. He married Kennice Harris at the end of the summer, and Rhoslyn inherited another sibling; this time an older step-brother Rory. Lachlan was afraid that his new wife would leave him if she found out about the strange identity of his daughter and thus Rhoslyn's identity as a witch and time at Hogwarts was kept a secret from her step-mother and step-brother. Kennice was older, and more experienced as a mother. She was kind to Rhoslyn the few times she was home for breaks, and Rhoslyn respected her, even grew to be fond of her. At school, Rhoslyn continued to advance in her studies, but never found any subject she was particularly fond of. It was all much more intense and in-depth than the magic in her childhood storybooks. But, nonetheless, Rhoslyn enjoyed her life at Hogwarts. In her fourth year, she joined the Hufflepuff Quidditch team as a Chaser, thriving on the excitement and popularity surrounding the sport. In her career advice session in her fifth year, it was recommended that she stay away from a job in the Ministry, stuffed up in an office all day. It was suggested she pursue something with Herbology, or perhaps Quidditch. As much as she loved the wizarding world, Rhoslyn still had the desire to be a dancer. Muggle or wizarding world, Rhoslyn graduated from Hogwarts with an open mind and no immediate plans. POST-HOGWARTS: After graduation, Rhoslyn decided to travel Europe with a few friends from school. In addition to rewarding herself for the completion of school, traveling was a means to put off going home and to figuring out her future. Little did she know, her travels would decide everything for her. It was more of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, if anything. Camping unknowingly on a full moon at the edge of an uninhabited forest in Scotland, the group deeply dozed off after a bout of drinking around the campfire. Waking for no reason, Rhoslyn wondered away from the tent to use the bathroom, leaving her friends and the tent yards behind her. It was then, she was attacked and bitten. She does not remember much of it, she doesn't even remember the werewolf coming up upon her. It happened quickly and unintentionally, and luckily she was left alive. She had gotten a slash and a bite in passing, most of the scars around her left shoulder. There was too much shock for there to be much initial pain; Rhoslyn didn't know much about werewolves to fully understand what had just happened. Calling out to her friends, not daring to move, no one responded. She was left alone in the woods. Managing to Apparate to St. Mungo's, she lost consciousness after appearing in the lobby. She doesn't remember her treatment for her attack and informed she had been bitten under the full moon. She was at a loss and felt her entire life slip away. She convinced herself for the first few days that she had really been killed in the attack and was now suffering in some sort of hell. She knew she couldn't go home, not to the muggle world, not to a father who couldn't even tell her step-mother that she was a witch. What would he think of her daughter, the vicious werewolf? Knowing she could pass until the end of the summer, when her traveling was expected to be completed, Rhoslyn was released from the hospital and searched for a remote town where she was unknown. She temporarily settled in a small Scottish town, not too far from where she was attacked. She didn't know the reasoning behind her choice of location, she unknowingly hoped to run in to her attacker. Perhaps they would do her in for good this time. When it was time for her first full moon, Rhoslyn was alone in the world, unsure of what to expect of her change. She wasn't a mighty Gryffindor, and half-expected the transformation to kill her. The pain was excruciating, but she was somehow still alive. She awoke in the morning, broken, only bits of what she did the night before playing over and over in her head. She lay alone in the woods, not wanting to face another human being ever again. She was ashamed, and scared of herself. Being a werewolf, to her, was a curse, something she knew she couldn't live with. She wanted to run away from civilization altogether, but wasn't brave enough for that leap. After another transformation, it was the end of the summer. She knew she could never return home, and wrote to her father to inform him she had settled down with a steady job. She expected he was too pleased with his new wife to care, so she moved once more. Settling down in the outskirts of the small city of Bangor in Wales, Rhoslyn took comfort in the surrounding forests and hills, hoping when her time to change came, there wouldn't be anyone to notice. She went to work as a barista at a local muggle coffee shop, not wanting to endanger anyone, but knowing in order to survive she needed some source of pay. As the war worsened, and the werewolf topic was pushed to a much more public platform, Rhoslyn had the desire to become active in the Ministry. A werewolf herself, she knew her experience, along with her strange agreement with the Ministry to restrict werewolves, would be an asset. Having to start out low, Rhoslyn enlisted in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures as a secretary, but a position was created for her as Ministry-werewolf liaison. |
five things |
• MINISTRY I don't play a pro-Ministry character and I would love the chance to! I play a Death Eater and an Order member, and never had to really consider the thought-process of the Ministry, or understand why someone may devote themselves to it. The Ministry is seen as the "bad guy" of the game, or perhaps even a "neutral" position, but I think supporting the Ministry is a very serious choice in itself. Putting your faith in your government says tons. I like to think the Ministry believes what it's doing is for the common good, such as Rhoslyn believing that werewolves should not walk freely as they are a threat to society, and I want to develop Rhoslyn and understand the Ministry's cause more. • WEREWOLVES Since America, the game has acquired an array of werewolf characters. However, all are affiliated with the Order. I am not necessarily interested in playing a werewolf for the sake of playing a werewolf, but more intrigued in playing her against the other werewolves. Rhoslyn has the best intentions, and even she is a werewolf herself; however, she supports the Ministry in their restrictions of werewolves and believes them to be monsters that could harm anyone. While Rhos' intentions with the Order werewolves may not be the same as the Ministry's, she does intend to persuade them to join up with the Ministry have much tighter restrictions, especially around the Full Moon. • INTERACTION WITH MINISTRY CHARACTERS To be honest, Ministry needs more interaction. As a muggleborn and werewolf, I think Rhoslyn has a lot of diversity and potential interaction to bring to the table. She knows some Ministry workers from school, and can bridge a gap between the muggle world and the Ministry, and perhaps between the Ministry and werewolves. I am really interested in finally getting to interact with Ministry characters that I've had such few chances with as I've only had a Death Eater and an Order member. • HER BELIEFS I think Rhoslyn's political beliefs are very intriguing. As a muggleborn, she believes all blood types should have equality, but as a werewolf, she believes half-bloods should have less freedom than wizards. Growing up reading muggle fairytales, she knows werewolves to be monsters. She is ashamed of what she becomes once a month, and attempts to cut herself off from society as much as she can. I would like her to connect with other werewolves in the game and find out that there is a human life to be had. Perhaps her views will change on werewolves, and perhaps she can begin to help change the Ministry's. • EXPLOITATION (MAYBE) While Rhoslyn only wanted to be a secretary in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, a position was created for her that made her a Ministry-werewolf liaison. Personally, I see the Ministry using her as the "face" of the department, to demonstrate to other werewolves that they should support the Ministry and register. I could see Rhoslyn being naive and oblivious to her being used for her lycanthropy rather than for brains and what she could really offer to the Ministry, and perhaps she could be even fed some twisted things to say to non-Ministry werewolves. IDK. |
